"The introduction of MAPS into the school has really helped in the teaching and assessment of ICT.
One of the most noticeable areas of improvement is in the KS4 GCSE course. It has enabled short, achievable deadlines to be set with students having ready access to information that helps them with the completion.
In previous years the ICT department has achieved good GCSE results but the advent of MAPS could well see 95% of the students taking the GCSE course achieving A-C grades in their coursework with over 50 % of these being A grades.
MAPS has also helped in many other aspects of ICT teaching, such as allowing students to continue with a project easily even if the regular teacher is not available."

"Our OCR ICT GCSE short course results for last year are much
better than before (92.5% A* to B). Much of this can be attributed
to improved collection of work through the Internet. We have year
9 groups who get one double period (70 minutes in total) every two
weeks and the abiltiy to maintain the on-line portfolio has made
a big difference. It reduced the issues students had handing in
work to staff and improved and significantly speeded up any feedback
to students. MAPS played a big part in this achievement."

"A good system for assessment [MAPS] now enables pupils'
progress to be tracked effectively so that teachers can assist
pupils to improve. This is a major reason for the above average
standards reached by the pupils"

"MAPS will have a positive impact on ICT standards and thanks
to the moderation it allows, will help improve performance and provide
teachers with a tool to help them manage the assessment of ICT."

“The MAPS system will help both teachers
and learners to understand standards in ICT capability. It will
provide pupils with a structure through which they can demonstrate
ICT capability and will support teachers in the judgements they
make about the standard of that work.”
Jane Finch, Teacher Adviser ICT, Worcestershire LEA |

“MAPS is a step towards bringing reality
to Anytime Anywhere Learning. Children can access their work whenever
they have Internet access. As a teacher, I can access students'
work in the same way. It makes more sense to store ICT tasks and
projects electronically and the management of assessment is much
more efficient. The messaging service has maximised opportunities
for interaction between students and myself and the recording of
this process makes assessment more reliable. The system will also
make moderation of standards across the school, County and, eventually,
nationally, much easier. It is a very exciting development.”

“Pupils found the software easy to use and enjoyed working
from school and home. They quickly found their way around the
site and used the resources to help them with their targets. They
appreciated the ability of staff to comment and the way they could
quickly access how well they were doing. Staff could easily track
the progress of each pupil and highlight work that was late or
incomplete. The ability to create tasks and provide on-line resources
helped to ease some of the time constraints in a lesson with a
large number of pupils. Also, those who missed lessons were able
quickly to view the resources used. Due to the monitoring capability
and feedback, it was shown that pupil’s performance improved
and as a department we were able to view each other’s work
and moderate across the year group. The lack of paper saved teachers
time and allowed for a more meaningful assessment to take place
and engaged the pupil and parents in the learning process. Pupils
needed to learn appropriate skills of uploading and downloading
work and resources, but even the less able easily acquired these
skills easily. The system is good value for money as it not only
provides much needed resources for the teacher and provides a
valid assessment capability, but also involves both parents and
pupils in the learning process and gives pupils ownership of their
work.”

MAPS. His school has subsequently purchased the system. |

“It is good to see a solution
which looks at the whole portfolio, not just the final pieces
of work. All we have to do now is convince pupils not to print
it all out and we could almost offset MAPS costs against ink and
paper costs!”
