MAPS Raising Standards

"A good system for assessment [MAPS] now enables pupils' progress to be tracked effectively so that teachers can assist pupils to improve. This is a major reason for the above average standards reached by the pupils"
Ridgeway Middle School, OFSTED report

Effective Pupil Tracking
The effective tracking of pupil progress is fundamental to raising standards in ICT education. Traditional methods of maintaining pupil portfolios are a step in the right direction but fall well short of an effective mechanism. MAPS bridges the gap between best practice and practical realities by providing every child with an electronic portfolio tightly structured to the demands of the curriculum.

Transition years
By structuring portfolios to the requirements of the ICT curriculum pupil progress can be tracked throughout a pupil's school career wherever MAPS is being used. Teachers of year 7 students not only have end of key stage levels to refer to for individual pupils but also the work itself!

Moderation
Online portfolios bring benefits not just to the process of tracking pupil progress but also to the process of moderation - in MAPS teachers have complete control over their personal moderation portfolios and are able share their assessments within schools and between schools thus simultaneously raising standards and making the application of curriculum standards more consistent.
