Imagine that your school has just received the most amazing offer. A local millionaire has said she will pay for a brand new sports centre to be built at your school The only thing is (and here’s the catch!) she wants YOU to do all the research to make sure the new facilities are exactly what pupils, teachers and the local community want. To do this you will have to create a questionnaire. As well as asking people what sort of facilities they want the new sports centre to have, you must also ask them questions about themselves. This is so that you can find out not only what people want but also whether different groups of people want different things. For example: 1) Will boys want different things from girls? 2) Will school teachers and pupils want the same things as other local people? 3) Will teachers and pupils agree about what facilities to have? The data provided by your questionnaire must then be put into a database. Using this database, you must decide which facilities the new sports centre should have in order to meet the needs of pupils, teachers and local people. You can also use the database to see whether your initial thoughts and assumptions about who would want what were correct.
